Presbyopia
Presbyopia is a natural ageing change that affects up close vision. Symptoms usually start after the age of 40 and include holding near objects such as books, newspapers and mobile phones further away in order to focus clearly. Many experience eyestrain and headaches when performing any close range task such as working on a computer or reading.
The human crystalline lens in the eye begins to harden and become less flexible with age causing light entering the eye to be focused behind the retina leading to poor vision for objects that are close up. Presbyopia can be corrected with single vision reading glasses, bifocal lenses or varifocals. It can also be corrected with multifocal contact lenses or monovision contact lenses.
